Relief in Need Grants

What is a Relief in Need Grant?

A financial grant is available to alleviate financial need causing hardship or distress. The grant will take the form of a direct payment for the purchase of items, services or facilities. The amounts awarded are at the discretion of the Trustees of Beckenham Parochial Charity.

Who is eligible?

Individuals or groups who are :
- Resident in or near Beckenham or Penge, or
- Former residents of the Beckenham Parochial Charity Almshouses

An application form can be downloaded from the website.

An application is made by a Sponsor and supported by a Letter of Support providing background information and documentary evidence, if any. If approved, a direct payment will be made to the sponsor who will be asked to give an undertaking that they will assume responsibility for ensuring that the payment is applied to the purpose for which it was granted. 
A sponsor may apply for a grant to benefit the church or organisation which it represents.
The Trustees of Beckenham Parochial Charity may request such additional information and/or documentary evidence as is considered necessary to deal with the application to include, but not limited to, evidence of residence, and may impose conditions upon acceptance of the application.

Who may act as a sponsor?

- A representative of a church or any other organisation whose objectives include the reduction of poverty or provision of need to those in poverty.
- A representative of a school concerned with the well being of pupils affected by poverty.
- a professional or volunteer with knowledge of the applicant's circumstances, for example Social Worker, Health Visitor, CAB worker
